Chateauesque

Continental Square Southwest • Order A Print

Also known as French Chateau, this style was popular in the United States from 1860 – 1890. Frequently this style was used by wealthy people who wanted a house of which to "show off." The most notable features of this style are the mansard roof, turreted corner, and tower with conical roof. The beautiful Colonial Hotel Building is a great example of this style; unfortunately, the original conical roof and gables were destroyed by fire.
