| The region encompassing the northern
sections of York County draw a heavy influence from the
Harrisburg area. Many of the neighborhoods serve as bedroom
communities for people who work in Harrisburg or on the West
Shore (local lingo for the towns in Cumberland County west of
the Susquehanna River). The largest employer in northern York
County is actually the Federal Government: the Defense
Distribution Center/Defense Distribution Depot Susquehanna is
located outside of New Cumberland. The Capital City Airport is
also located in Northern York County. Population centers can be
found in the towns of Dillsburg, Manchester, and Mount Wolf, and
Gifford Pinchot State Park provides recreational opportunities
for residents throughout the region.
