| York’s oldest farmers' market was built
in 1876. It is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places as a Queen Anne Style building, though it has also been
identified as Federal in design. However, it is safe to state
that the Market & Penn Farmer’s Market is a simple
Victorian structure, perhaps a provincial "York Market
House" design, as it bares similarities to other former
market houses on East Market Street and Carlisle Avenue.
