| Founded in 1772, the Laurel Fire Company is
one of the oldest fire companies in the United States. The Rex
& Laurel Fire House was built in 1878, and has to be one of
the most striking firehouses in the nation. It is constructed in
the Italianate Style, with a Gothic sub-type. Architectural
features include round and pointed arches,
quoins, wide eaves
with brackets, pediments
over the garage doors, hood molds above
the windows, paired arched windows, and
modillions.
